Back in time, February fun! (Worcestershire County Museum)

20160216_112409

Me and Ayla went on a little explore today as it is half term and our usual groups are not running this week. I decided to head toward Hartlebury and perhaps visit the common when I stumbled across this County Museum advertising half term activities, and Im really glad we did!

20160216_112116

We were looking forward to something fun especially as the baby’s due date is getting nearer, I am taking this opportunity to have some quality Mummy daughter time before we have our hands full with our new little arrival!

The lady greeted us at the desk and as Ayla is under 5 her addmission was free, Adult price is only ยฃ5 and I paid ยฃ2 for Ayla to do all three of the craft activities which were being run throughout the Museum.

I was in heaven as they had a fantastic display of Gypsy Bow Top wagons and exhibits of horses in harness!

I really hope to one day own my own bow top, they are just so beautiful they really are captivating and they look so cosy inside!

We even found a Blacksmiths forge which Ayla was confused why her Daddy wasn’t actually forging there. I did try to explain it was like Daddy’s forge but not actually his … her little voice calling out ‘Where is Daddy?’ as she peered in!

20160216_115837

Inside the museum we were invited to take part in a trail to find the ‘frogs’ which were numbered and hiding around the exhibits which really helped to add an element of excitement. Ayla enjoyed finding them and pointing them out to me!

This was one of the clues we found in the Victorian class room. Ayla particularly liked this room and it reminded me of myself as I was always fascinated finding out what life had been like for children years ago.

20160216_125631

She took her time in Victorian school quite seriously and insisted that I be the teacher ๐Ÿ™‚

This museum is perfect for little ones as the exhibits are so interactive, they have really thought about children attending and made the history of it all come alive for them. Ayla could listen to different peoples accounts of farming from local people recalling the past. She told me at one stage she thought it might be ‘Mary Poppins speaking to her’ which of course she thought was brilliant! There was dressing up to be done, buttons to press, mini electric trains to watch, old fashioned toys to have a go with, coin rubbing and more!

I loved watching her run around the carriage circle and pretend to be stuck in the stocks ๐Ÿ™‚

The cafe was great too, simple hearty food at value for money and good service, I really recommend this place as a visit for all the family to enjoy!

The craft activites were really well thought out and each one had a set person to explain and help you make each one. Ayla was also given a certificate for completing her trail and entered into a prize draw at the end to win some more goodies.

Would definitely recommend!

…..Now all I need to do is figure out how I can get my hands on one of these gorgeous

bow tops! ๐Ÿ™‚

Watch it burn!!

Well I have been avoiding my blog as I have neglected it for quite some time…the trouble was the more I left it the harder it seemed to get blogging again. Did not know where to start… however now I’m here I’m wondering really what all the fuss was about!

2014-11-07 15.08.52

Autumn has gone off with a bang, we enjoyed the usual celebrations of Bonfire night and all got dressed up warm to stand in a field to watch a huge pile of wood be set alight and something resembling a man be thrown on top! …. (Try explaining that to a two-year old) … I even began to question why we were all so desperate to watch it go up in flames along with the dummy of Guy Fawkes, I mean it’s all very well to celebrate the fact that the houses of parliament were not blown up but its kind of questionable to celebrate a ritual burning of a Guy every year.

I didn’t quite go to this level with Ayla as she is only two, and trying to teach them about forgive and forget and all might seem slightly hypocritical as the failed gunpowder plot actually happened in 1605…. but hey I like a good bonfire night as much as the next person!

2014-11-08 16.36.12

(apologies in advance for these blurry phone photos)

Needless to say this scene of revenge was not quite as grasping for Ayla as the rest of the crowd, thankfully she didn’t seem to notice the man being burned alive and once she had seen the bonfire that was about all there was to it and was keen to see something else. There is only so many times we could say.. ‘Look at the fire Ayla… Look at the smoke!’

We kept trying to keep her interest with the promise of fireworks and music to come, I had tried to prepare her for the fireworks during the week by talking about them, painting them and doing impressions, actions and noises.

2014-11-07 16.27.14ย ย ย ย  2014-11-07 16.25.32

She was on her Daddy’s shoulders as the very first rockets took flight and to see her face was a picture, (will always remember that) it was of awe, beauty and joy….. then the loud ones came out, with a BANG so hard it hits you in your chest. I kept smiling and reassuring her but could see she was starting to get anxious. There were other youngsters wailing (honestly why do we put our kids through this!) and I tried to keep her focus on us, she would bury her head in my chest when the loud ones went off so Josh covered her ears which helped and in between the loud ones were some pretty quiet ones that whizzed, sparkled and rained glitter down the sky…. ‘I like those ones Mummy’…..then the big ones again.. ‘Bit loud Mummy… TOO LOUD’.

2014-11-12 16.56.16

She didn’t cry which I was so glad about and despite not really liking the big bangs she never got upset which was a relief.

When we figured she’d had enough of the fireworks for one night, we took her into the gift shop where she picked up almost every cuddly toy… and then went through the motions of having to put each one back, so they could stay with ‘their friends’. After the fireworks we had a go on Mickey Mouse’s car which was not scary at all. When the ride stopped she informed us that… ย  ย ย  ‘ Mummy Daddy…. Minnie’s car has run out of Petrol’

2014-11-08 19.44.26

They then put on a Sea lion show which was amazing and really helped to make the evening super special, as well as getting to see some of the fish, bats, reptiles and even the penguins.

All in all a fantastic bonfire night, one to remember…. I will always remember bonfire nights fondly as for me it was the night that Josh called to invite me on our very first date. Here’s to many more special bonfire nights. Hope everyone’s pets were not too traumatised by the event. Definitely would recommend attending a professionally run event; they are always better and its never a great idea for amateurs to take explosives into their homes and set about lighting them from their gardens.

Happy Autumn days everyone… Winter is just around the corner!

Here’s to being back on the blog… feels great ๐Ÿ™‚

Happy Days

Ayla had her very first ‘proper’ pony ride! I have sat her on top of several horses from the moment she was born, but this time it was all her own idea and she was able to go for a little ride, hat on and everything!

2014-04-19 11.52.47ย 20140419_115042

This wasn’t just any pony though, this is Oscar, we bought him quite a few years ago with the intention of schooling him to ride and drive to sell, but me being me, I just couldn’t part with him. Instead I decided to find him a loan family when I found out I was pregnant and he has been very well loved by two little girls. Oscar will make a wonderful first pony for Ayla when she gets a bit bigger. I loved seeing him, it was so special as I haven’t seen him for so long and Ayla was filled with so much joy being carried along on his back, she kept saying to him “good boy” which really made me smile.

The weather has been really lovely some days and we have tried to make good use of the garden when the sun has been shining!

Ayla thought Mums garden rabbit needed an Easter bonnet!!

2014-04-16 12.07.35

We got given some free tomato seeds with our bottle of ketchup this week so me and Ayla planted them. I also planted some flower seeds which we had been given.

2014-04-16 17.17.00

Ayla planted….stones! ๐Ÿ™‚

2014-04-16 17.21.21

It got so sunny Nana bought a beautiful sun hat for Ayla … needless to say we haven’t seen the sun since!

2014-04-16 17.30.49

So we played dress up with some clothes that are really on there way to the charity shop for a friend but Ayla just thought she would give us a fashion display before they hit the shops! I just loved how she thought the necklaces were “crowns” and informing us all she was the “Queen”ย of course.

And then in true British fashion for St Georges day today it was back to wearing coats and woolly hats with raining day book-stops, and coffee shops ๐Ÿ™‚

Story Time!

Yesterday we headed off to the Library or – “Lyebee” as Ayla calls it, she was so enthusiastic she shouted at the top of her little lungs “Lyebee ..Lyebee..Lyebee!!!” all the way through the doors into the kids area. We are fortunate that our local Library is set up for kids and really encourages them to get excited, get involved and still be ‘kids’ around books.

I am so happy that she has a love for books and that they bring her so much joy.

20140310_161852 20140310_161900

Me and Josh have been reading her stories way before she could even comprehend they were there, we even bought her books when she was still just a bump. I love the bedtime stories and now she will happily pick up a book herself sit down, and amuse herself studying the pages.

So fortunate to have access to so many books for free!!! If you have a library near you I really recommend making use of it, Ayla loves picking out some new books, its a great afternoon out. Unfortunately me and mum couldn’t resist a cuppa and a flapjack in the cafe which obviously weren’t for free, but were totally worth it … a very nice treat.

2014-03-10 16.39.30

Summed up a lovely afternoon with Mum, Ayla, Books, Tea and Flapjacks!

Muddy Puddles, Bubbles & Horsey Snuggles!

Well we have had a great day jumping in muddy puddles!

All I can say is … Peppa Pig has a lot to answer for! Ayla is completely drawn to mud but I’m not sure Peppa is entirely to blame. Me, Josh and the Cars are usually covered in the stuff ๐Ÿ™‚

2014-02-28 14.52.572014-02-28 14.53.05

We continued the afternoon introducing ourselves to the ‘Cob house’ chickens

2014-02-28 14.51.58

2014-02-28 14.56.05

We had the whole place to ourselves, which was nice, it did turn quite chilly in the wind today… apparently Snow has been forecast! So we retreated into the Cafe and had hot drinks and iced buns.

We then went to visit Saracen…

2014-02-28 14.16.21

Missed this boy… he is such a handsome fella.

He enjoyed munching some apples and carrots (cupboard love!) and I enjoyed having a snuggle with him and stroking that soft muzzle. Nothing quite like a soft warm muzz20130803_103913le of a horse to cheer you up ๐Ÿ™‚ He really looks amazing, and it is so special to me that Ayla has got to know him. As my ‘first love’ and childhood pony he was a huge part of my growing up, making it so special is that he has now been a part of my daughters life too.ย

1390060971336

Yesterday we spent quite some time blowing bubbles & catching bubbles (in Mums sitting room) Ayla was so impressed with them it really was so much fun seeing her little face light up as she repeated over and over “Bubbblles…Bubballls …Bubbbawls!!”

๐Ÿ™‚ There is something rather special about seeing the world through the eyes of a toddler.

2014-02-26 16.08.262014-02-26 16.08.41

Ayla has made me experience the world around me all over again through her eyes, she really helps you appreciate beauty in the smallest of things.

Like Leaves and Bubbles and Stones and Sticks,

To Keys and Birds and Buttons and Clicks,

The Rain and Wind and Sun and Snow

It’s So Exciting Watching You Grow!

Blown Away!

Well the winds have blown the poly tunnel away! Not just blown the cover off, but actually picked it up knocking over the fencing to the chicken pen! (The door to the chicken coop is also looking a little dubious).

And this was what my lovely husband had to rescue this morning.

2014-02-13 15.56.122014-02-13 15.53.25

Thankfully no real harm has been done and the chickens seem completely unfazed by it all. We haven’t got any plants in there at the moment anyway, we were using it for storage mostly and the chickens enjoyed the extra shelter. We are going to need a new cover for it now though I think as it has been badly ripped, so be nice to get it up and going reading for some planting in the spring when I am fully recovered.

On a more positive note – a surprise box of goodies was waiting for us in the porch this morning!….

2014-02-13 10.44.07

Thank you Hollie, Adam, Linden, bump and Fitz too! ๐Ÿ™‚ This box of goodies has had Ayla entertained all day!

Ayla especially liked the reusable sticker pad…

2014-02-13 10.53.41 2014-02-13 10.53.43

Hollie is my very good friend and the owner of Saracen one very special horse, that I have had the privilege of taking care of when I was younger and again over these last few years. He is 30 now and one amazing horse, I am so thankful to Hollie for letting me share in his life and for her friendship – (thanks Hollie if your reading this!)

Spent the rest of the day visiting the Supermarket and picking up something nice for me and Josh’s Valentines meal!

2014-02-13 17.19.58

Ayla spent the supermarket trip singing this silly song that I made up the other day … my fault entirely! She was saying “Shake… shake your Body” . This is because when we were shaking shakers and dancing in the living room the other day, I made up this stupid songย “Shake, shake shake your body”.

The unfortunate thing is that out of context and to members of the public a 15month old telling you to – ‘shake your body’ sounds, well… a little inappropriate! Especially when Ayla’s speech makes it sound almost like… ‘shake your booty!’ ๐Ÿ™‚ Me and Mum tried to hold back the laughter so as not to encourage it, but it was hard not to laugh!
