The Wellies Came Off!!

Had a lovely weekend with the family, Ayla particularly enjoyed visiting her Granny and Grandad with all their animals. We fed the ‘kune kune’ pigs ‘Keri and Twizzle’ some fresh carrots and juicy apples which they munched down very happily 🙂

Misty and Fenn were keen to get in on the act too!

I love watching Ayla interact with all the animals, she is showing much more of an interest but is very sweet in her approach saying ‘hello pony hello… doing?’ . She has learnt to touch them gently and is growing in confidence with them. I am so happy that she is growing up around animals and gaining a respect for them all.

I also met a mini tractor/mower that looked suspiciously like ET!

🙂

After church on Sunday we went for a late afternoon walk, and took my parents dog with us too. This walk involved lots of stopping, looking and picking whilst Ayla took time to explore the beauty of nature. It is such a blessing walking with my daughter as she opens my eyes to most things I would simply walk by or not even notice.

We did the ‘girly’ thing of putting flowers in our hair……

But when it comes to mud our daughter is an absolute fan of mud and puddles!

2014-04-27 18.02.09

This is where it all came a bit unstuck (or should I say stuck)… and resulted in some very muddy socks!

It was Daddy to the rescue!

2014-04-27 17.55.52

And I had a mummy-thinking-on-the-spot idea, to use the doggy poo bags to cover up the muddy foot! (At least untill we could change our socks back at the car)

Daddy’s shoulders made for a comfy journey back to fresh socks

2014-04-27 18.11.07

With a change of socks (minus the poo bags!) we were good to go again and up for a blast in the park before home to bed 🙂

Advertisements

Let’s get making!

Spoilt myself to a beautiful magazine over Easter, its called ‘Homemaker magazine’ I really like the style of the magazine. It had all sorts of things you could try, (that weren’t all just adverts for things) and most ideas didn’t result in you having to spend an absolute fortune either. I really enjoyed flicking through all the photos with so many inspirational ideas that leave you itching to get creative!

They also gave you two free gifts one of which was the fabric for making a bird decoration and a cat cushion. So I thought I would have a go………..

2014-04-23 23.22.55 2014-04-23 23.24.54

I started by cutting out all the pieces from the fabric.

2014-04-23 23.29.09 2014-04-23 23.40.14

I then ran the iron over them so the fabric was smooth and flat before pinning them together, with the decorated sides facing in.

I then stitched around the edge by hand, following the line of the design.

2014-04-24 02.02.25 2014-04-24 01.29.42

Leaving enough of a gap for stuffing, I turned the pieces inside out and stuffed.

For the little bird I added a piece of ribbon into the last seam, to use as a decoration.

Had such fun making these and left them out for Ayla to find the next morning which was a nice surprise … I was a little less enthusiastic however, as I stayed up till 3 am stitching away but I had so much fun in the process 🙂

Happy Days

Ayla had her very first ‘proper’ pony ride! I have sat her on top of several horses from the moment she was born, but this time it was all her own idea and she was able to go for a little ride, hat on and everything!

2014-04-19 11.52.47 20140419_115042

This wasn’t just any pony though, this is Oscar, we bought him quite a few years ago with the intention of schooling him to ride and drive to sell, but me being me, I just couldn’t part with him. Instead I decided to find him a loan family when I found out I was pregnant and he has been very well loved by two little girls. Oscar will make a wonderful first pony for Ayla when she gets a bit bigger. I loved seeing him, it was so special as I haven’t seen him for so long and Ayla was filled with so much joy being carried along on his back, she kept saying to him “good boy” which really made me smile.

The weather has been really lovely some days and we have tried to make good use of the garden when the sun has been shining!

Ayla thought Mums garden rabbit needed an Easter bonnet!!

2014-04-16 12.07.35

We got given some free tomato seeds with our bottle of ketchup this week so me and Ayla planted them. I also planted some flower seeds which we had been given.

2014-04-16 17.17.00

Ayla planted….stones! 🙂

2014-04-16 17.21.21

It got so sunny Nana bought a beautiful sun hat for Ayla … needless to say we haven’t seen the sun since!

2014-04-16 17.30.49

So we played dress up with some clothes that are really on there way to the charity shop for a friend but Ayla just thought she would give us a fashion display before they hit the shops! I just loved how she thought the necklaces were “crowns” and informing us all she was the “Queen” of course.

And then in true British fashion for St Georges day today it was back to wearing coats and woolly hats with raining day book-stops, and coffee shops 🙂

Easter Fun!

Me and Ayla made the most of the chocolate theme and made some chocolate nests to share at church on Sunday. Without a doubt these are the easiest cakes to make as there is no actual baking involved and very toddler friendly! Ayla got stuck in straight away to crushing and crunching her way through the shredded wheat quite happily!

2014-04-16 10.03.10

Whilst I did the mummy job of eating… I mean ..melting the chocolate! 🙂

2014-04-16 10.05.26 2014-04-16 10.09.25

Which then meant Ayla could get it everywhere in the process of mixing the two together…

2014-04-16 10.11.38 2014-04-16 10.11.47

After all the mixing and a little bit of finger licking, Ayla was bored of baking, so I let her paint while I finished off making the chocolate nests.

2014-04-16 10.37.29 2014-04-16 10.27.34

I then left them to set in the fridge for a few hours before decorating with chocolate eggs and little chicks for authenticity!

2014-04-16 16.39.23 2014-04-16 16.53.11 2014-04-16 16.53.02

I also made a large nest to use as a table decoration for our Easter Sunday dinner, which had some foil wrapped mini eggs for people to help themselves to a little chocolaty fix.

Hope you have all had a very Happy Easter and had a chance to spend quality time with loved ones, reflecting on the true message of Easter and what Christ has done for us all.

John 11:25-26
Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die.(NIV)

Blooming teapots!!

2014-04-15 15.59.09Feeling very inspired by all this sunshine and spring time feelings that I thought I might have a go at decorating the table at mums for Easter.

Whilst Ayla was having her nap I took the opportunity to have a ‘mooch’ round Mum and Dads garden and gather some spring blossoms and such. I spotted some old teapots in the cupboard and couldn’t resist having a go at filling them up with some fresh flowers!

        2014-04-15 15.58.31

I decorated the rest of the table with some candles, vases, daffodils and ribbons as well as a cute nest of chocolate eggs and chicks, specially for a little someone 🙂

After my burst of creativity Ayla was keen to get in on the act, so we painted… and made mess… brilliant fun!!

To Market we will go!

Had our first experience of selling at market last week, and I can’t say I enjoyed it all that much. I was very sad to see these boys go …..

2014-03-31 17.15.56

Apart from having knots in my stomach I did enjoy seeing Ayla’s reactions and interests to her first real livestock market, I have taken her to a horse sale when she was tiny and she has been to general sales once or twice but I think she preferred the livestock sale, she was particularly taken with the cows!

2014-04-03 11.05.51 2014-04-03 09.30.31

Here she is picking out the best sheep!

2014-04-03 10.44.50

During the auction I found it quite upsetting watching my cockerels caged up,  I vowed to Josh I would buy them back if I didn’t like the look of a prospective owner… needless to say he didn’t even let me near a bidding card! Fortunately our blue Orpington ‘Buck’ was bought by a breeder and the other two boys were sold to a gentleman. It was awful to see them go but it was sad seeing them in the garden without their hen’s too.

After the auction we headed into the town where Ayla fell in love with a giant bronze sculpture of a Hereford Bull!

2014-04-03 13.47.23 2014-04-03 13.50.03

There was a slight upset when we had to say goodbye to him, Ayla then proceeded to walk the rest of the way calling ‘Bull Bull.. Bull’ all the way back to the car, not sure what passers by made of it all! I’m pretty sure she would of had us take him home with us if we could.
