The View From The Hill

There is something quite magical about being on top of a hill, I have always found it fascinating why we strive to get to the top. Apart from the feeling of achievement when you get there, it is rather inspiring to be so high up and look out all around you. It certainly helps put everything into perspective, especially when we can spend so much time in our own little bubbles.

It was the first time we have taken Ayla to walk the hills herself and she did really well, I was very impressed and when her legs were getting tired Daddy’ s shoulders were a pretty good place to rest!

The view was pretty spectacular and we made it to the top to enjoy the sun setting over the town around us. We are very fortunate to live so near to the Malvern hills, it truly is a special place.

I will never get tired of seeing a beautiful sunset or sunrise, there is so much beauty in the world around us that so often gets overlooked, it is so nice to take a moment to just drink it all in!

‘There is not one blade of grass, there is no colour in the world that is not intended to make us rejoice’ – John Calvin

Nature Knows Best!

I have become more and more aware lately, like so many others, of the complete bombardment of chemicals we are subjecting our bodies too and after some persuasion from my Brothers fiancée (thanks Robyn) I went ahead and bought some natural products that she recommended to me.

2014-03-12 14.58.13

I have been using the Rosehip Oil on my scar every night as it is said to reduce the appearance of scars, stretch marks and fine lines. I dab just a few drops onto the skin and leave overnight.

Coconut oil can be used to treat a many number of things – so far I have only used it as an overnight hair treatment and the results were immediate! It has definitely made a difference to the shine and condition of my hair.

The soap is a dead sea natural mineral soap which I’m not entirely sure is 100% natural ingredients, but seems to be a nice soap to use and leaves your skin feeling soft and clean.

No good being beautiful on the outside if your no good on the inside, so I have made a concerted effort to get us all to eat more fresh fruit and vegetables too!

The greatest hit with the family has been making smoothies in the morning… delicious!! Or as Ayla calls them ” Mooozies!” its so cute I just love the way she says it 🙂

2014-03-12 09.01.23

The great thing about smoothies is they are so easy and fun to experiment with – its quite exciting seeing how they’ll turn out. We bought lots of frozen fruit as well which makes them nicely chilled… brain freeze!

To top it all off Dad made the biggest pot of soup the other day!

This should keep us going till Easter!

For lent this year I decided to give up sweets and chocolates. Me and Mum took a trip to the local farm shop and needing something to satisfy my sweet cravings these are the very next best thing – totally scrumptious, yummy-yummy-dates. (Ayla loves these too!)

It has been quite fun making an effort to eat more fresh fruit and veg and surprisingly easy. A great thing about soups, salads and smoothies is they are an incredibly quick, hassle free, and an easy way to up your intake.

Now don’t get me wrong.. I’m no saint I eat lots of things I probably shouldn’t and use all kinds of chemicals. Yet it seems pretty clear that the less processed food we can eat and chemicals we use on our bodies, can only have a positive effect on our health and well being.

Thank you Nature!

Story Time!

Yesterday we headed off to the Library or – “Lyebee” as Ayla calls it, she was so enthusiastic she shouted at the top of her little lungs “Lyebee ..Lyebee..Lyebee!!!” all the way through the doors into the kids area. We are fortunate that our local Library is set up for kids and really encourages them to get excited, get involved and still be ‘kids’ around books.

I am so happy that she has a love for books and that they bring her so much joy.

Me and Josh have been reading her stories way before she could even comprehend they were there, we even bought her books when she was still just a bump. I love the bedtime stories and now she will happily pick up a book herself sit down, and amuse herself studying the pages.

So fortunate to have access to so many books for free!!! If you have a library near you I really recommend making use of it, Ayla loves picking out some new books, its a great afternoon out. Unfortunately me and mum couldn’t resist a cuppa and a flapjack in the cafe which obviously weren’t for free, but were totally worth it … a very nice treat.

Summed up a lovely afternoon with Mum, Ayla, Books, Tea and Flapjacks!

These boots were made for walking!

Feeling so much stronger now and with the weather finally giving us some relief from all that rain I had to put my boots on and get some walking done.

My first attempt2014-03-05 17.25.03 at going for a walk was a wander round some of the soggy fields at home. To be honest it was just nice to have some freedom and fresh air, I left Ayla napping at mums and went on a walk along some of the footpaths I explored as a child. I had very muddy boots by the end of it but it was totally worth it. However going for a walk without the company of a certain four legged friend did leave me longing for my little Mac dog to be trotting along at my side.

We couldn’t resist another chance to get those walking boots on again, so Mum took me and Ayla to a lovely Park to feed the ducks and let Ayla try out her new trike from her Granny.

The funniest thing about feeding the ducks was that they were so well fed none of them were at all interested in the bread we brought, (which was home baked, no less, by my very lovely Dad). However this was of absolutely no concern to Ayla as she seemed far more 2014-03-04 12.58.46content happily tucking into it herself. Not sure she understood why we wanted to throw it away in the first place!

My favourite walk last week though was a wonderful walk through the woods, I love walking through the woods there is something quite magical about being surrounded by these awesome trees standing together both silent and strong.

I have really missed the outdoors these past few months and it was so amazing watching Ayla walking about on her own and exploring it all for herself.

All topped off with another walk, this time along the river where we came across a family of geese and ate our lunch by the River bank. What more could you ask for!

Muddy Puddles, Bubbles & Horsey Snuggles!

Well we have had a great day jumping in muddy puddles!

All I can say is … Peppa Pig has a lot to answer for! Ayla is completely drawn to mud but I’m not sure Peppa is entirely to blame. Me, Josh and the Cars are usually covered in the stuff 🙂

We continued the afternoon introducing ourselves to the ‘Cob house’ chickens

We had the whole place to ourselves, which was nice, it did turn quite chilly in the wind today… apparently Snow has been forecast! So we retreated into the Cafe and had hot drinks and iced buns.

We then went to visit Saracen…

Missed this boy… he is such a handsome fella.

He enjoyed munching some apples and carrots (cupboard love!) and I enjoyed having a snuggle with him and stroking that soft muzzle. Nothing quite like a soft warm muzz20130803_103913le of a horse to cheer you up 🙂 He really looks amazing, and it is so special to me that Ayla has got to know him. As my ‘first love’ and childhood pony he was a huge part of my growing up, making it so special is that he has now been a part of my daughters life too.

Yesterday we spent quite some time blowing bubbles & catching bubbles (in Mums sitting room) Ayla was so impressed with them it really was so much fun seeing her little face light up as she repeated over and over “Bubbblles…Bubballls …Bubbbawls!!”

🙂 There is something rather special about seeing the world through the eyes of a toddler.

Ayla has made me experience the world around me all over again through her eyes, she really helps you appreciate beauty in the smallest of things.
